How to shift your mood...

Quote of the Day:

"The thing about kids is that they express emotion. They don't hold back. If they want to cry, they cry, and if they are in a good mood, they're in a good mood." ~Eddie Murphy

Questions to Ponder:

First of all, have you seen this video of Jimmy Kimmel's prank regarding Halloween candy? For the 3rd year in a row, he encouraged parents to play a prank on their kids by telling them that they ate all of their Halloween candy and to record their responses. It's absolutely hysterical; please spend 6 minutes of your day today watching it, if you get the chance. Besides the fact that I laughed out loud for these 6 minutes, I also liked this video because it reminded me how awesome kids are at shifting their moods quickly.

You've witnessed this, right? One minute they are laughing and having fun and the next, they're sobbing uncontrollably.  But if we change the subject and get them to focus on something else, they can shift right back to their good mood.  Psst... I've got a secret.  We can still do this as adults. We can choose our mood.  We can change the subject of our thoughts and get back to a mood in which solutions and ideas can occur.

Action Step:

ne of the children in the video was stomping her feet and yelling when she heard that all of her Halloween candy had been eaten...and then her pants fell down.  She giggled, pulled them up and started laughing.  Next time you're caught with your pants down --metaphorically speaking, of course!-- see if you can tune in to your inner giggle.  Find some humor in your bad mood and make a choice to get out of it.

Shine on in your greatness,

Katie
